The Bossa Nova
The Bossa Nova is danced to bossa nova music. The dance was popular in the early 1960's in the United States when bossa nova music was introduced from Brazil. It did not evolve in the same way that other couple dances did because soon after it was introduced solo dancing (the twist and rock and roll) became popular. Nina and Jeff have become interested in rediscovering this wonderful dance and have done research to identify the steps that had been developed for the dance by dance teachers in the 1960's and 1970's. They plan to compile the steps that they discover into a contemporary syllabus for the bossa nova. The video below shows the fruits of their work. This routine was choreographed by Jeff Ringer.
